Hair in the sun: step-by-step plan for 24-hour care

Washing, styling, special care. There is no longer any reason for dried out summer hair. 24-hour summer care for the hair is possible. There are summer shampoos, sun oil, and hair masks for the summer. But what do you need or don’t need and what steps do you follow? When is the best time to wash your hair, and what are the best products? Read more.

The evening before

The best time to wash your hair in summer is when you go out in the sun. Some people are ‘just’ used to showering in the morning and conveniently washing their hair. To happily step into the shower again the evening of that same day to rid the hair of sea and pool water, sand and other summer stuff. This is really too much of a good thing. If you only wash your hair in the afternoon or evening after sunbathing, the sebum production that protects the hair and scalp can be stimulated overnight. Moreover, this way you don’t strip your hair of the naturally occurring grease and moisture twice.

What did you wash your summer hair with?

Anyone who just picks up a shampoo will have noticed: after washing, the hair still feels different than usual. Stiffer, less flexible. It is not without reason that all kinds of summer shampoos are now available. These are specially formulated to wash chlorine and salt from the hair. In addition, the shampoos provide mild care and often contain a UV filter that blocks harmful sun rays. For example, choose the Sun Active shampoo from the Indola brand line of the same name. It is useful that it can be used for hair and skin, which also applies to the Wella Sun Hair and Body Shampoo. That will save money on your holiday suitcase. From Kérastase there is Bain Après-Soleil, a shampoo for dry to normal hair with sun filter. For colored hair that quickly discolours or dries out extra in the sun, there is ‘Bain Après-Soleil Filter UV Défense Active’. Quite a mouthful, which means that the shampoo nourishes, preserves color, filters out UV rays and promotes shine.

Special care

Choose from two products after washing your hair. Use a sunscreen rinse or intensive care cream for daily care (e.g. Lait Après-Soleil from Kérastase). Or opt for a hair mask, which can be used at least once or twice a week as an intensive treatment. There is the L’Oréal Solar Sublime hair mask especially for the summer. If you have very dry hair, you can finish with a leave-in product, or a care that you do not rinse out: comparable to a day or night cream for the hair. Consider Schwarzkopf BC Sun Soft Ends Fluid, which repairs and protects hair ends damaged by the sun.

House brands can also be fine

Did you know that with luxury brands you pay up to half or even 70% for the marketing campaigns, and not for the product itself? That is why products from Hema or Etos can also meet your needs for a fraction of the price. They are also more animal-friendly, because they are not exported to countries where animal testing is still the standard. Luxury brands are at the forefront of product development, so that they can incorporate the latest gadgets into their products as quickly as possible.Source: L’Oreal press material

The next day

The well-groomed hair has had a long night to recover from your sunbathing. Now it’s time to prepare for a new day in the sun. If you go purely for care, you can create a very nice wet look with a sun oil with a UV filter, such as Sun Active Protective Hair Oil from Indola, or provide the hair with a protective layer with Sun Reflects Protect Spray from Goldwell. Styling and caring at the same time is also an option, for example with the sun hair gel Sun Active Hair Gel from Indola. L’Oréal Solar Sublime Milkspray nourishes the hair, but also helps to manage frizz and flyaways that are difficult to tame. This summer? Sun-clear, shiny and well-groomed summer hair!
