Go for a walk or cycle in a nature reserve, pick up a good book with a pleasant ending, watch a comedy film or take up a hobby. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you enjoy it, because that gives you new energy. Negativity always costs energy. It can make you exhausted.

Someone who lives alone in particular has a tendency to deepen depressive thoughts, causing them to become increasingly sad and eventually no longer see any point in it. Anyone who knows this about themselves would do well to immediately convert the last thought into a positive one during such a negative spiral of thought and do something fun for themselves.

It is often more difficult to stay positive in the evenings

In the evening you are tired and negative thoughts enter more quickly than during the day. That is normal and nothing to be afraid of. Most people have some trouble with this. However, if you tend towards depression, it is wise to take this into account and make yourself extra cozy in the evening with a candle, a good, positive program on TV (and yes, they are indeed not always available), or settle on the couch with a good book.

For example, treat yourself to a heating pad in your painful back, have a cup of soup or broth, make a good cup of coffee or tea and have something tasty with it, or go for a walk and look at everything around you. Be sure to take something warm to drink before going to sleep and refuse to allow negative thoughts to enter when you go to sleep.

You probably know it: what was a minor concern in the morning often seems insurmountable in the evening. That is not surprising, because after a busy day people are tired. Depressive and worrying thoughts then have an influence more quickly. However, don’t give in to that. Certainly not just before you go to sleep, because then you will still be in bed worrying. This often gets in the way of a good and restful sleep. Try to think of something nice or think of a nice or pleasant situation and build on it.

Helping others can make you feel good. It strengthens your self-confidence and the feeling that you have done something good gives you positive energy. It often also shows you that there are people who are having an even more difficult time and that puts their own problems into perspective.
