Most men have experienced it: you are walking with your girlfriend or wife in a busy shopping street and see a beautiful woman. When the attractive lady passes by, your head turns to inspect the beauty’s behind. That happens almost automatically. Research shows that after approximately 200 milliseconds, the male brain sends a signal to respond when an attractive person of the opposite sex passes by. The male brain is more or less pre-programmed to look at beautiful women, according to research from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. But, what is the perfect woman?The area in the ( heterosexual) male brain that is activated as soon as a man sees a beautiful woman is the same as the area that responds to drug and alcohol addiction. It seems that seeing a beautiful woman is like a drug addiction: once you get a taste of it, you want more. In today’s society we do not accept that men approach every attractive woman directly, so it remains a – usually civilized – look.

Differences

First of all, women’s attractiveness to men is based on the differences between the sexes. Men subconsciously want to see as quickly as possible whether a person is a woman. Men find everything that makes women feminine that men do not have attractive. Women often accentuate differences with make-up: full lips, smooth peach skin, thin eyebrows and long eyelashes. By emphasizing these differences, women become even more attractive to men. This also applies to other body parts.

Breasts

Large breasts also have a great appeal to men. A man sees this as super feminine, after all, he does not have it, and can also see from afar that the person in question is a woman. The brain is then already activated unconsciously. This has undergone an evolution. According to British zoologist Desmond Morris, the breasts are the new buttocks. Our distant ancestors walked hunched over so that breasts were barely visible. The man’s sexual focus was therefore on the buttocks. According to him, boob men did not exist at all at the time. Sexual intercourse always took place from behind, according to the Brit. When humans started walking upright, breasts became the focus of attention.

Fruitful

In addition to physical appearance, it is also important for a man that a woman is fertile. Scientists claim that men subconsciously want as many offspring as possible. The beauty ideal of women is strongly based on this. All attractiveness of women serve as signals of fertility, for example a young and healthy appearance. The waist and hips are also important for men, think of the perfect hourglass figure. Subconsciously the man thinks: women with a slim waist are not pregnant, so they can still be fertilized. Wide hips are evolutionarily a sign that the woman will give birth easily. Research shows that women with an hourglass figure are actually more fertile than average.

Clothing

When a woman with a beautiful figure is also sexually accessible to a man, he considers that the main prize. Men subconsciously look for signals as to whether they like it. For example, women with a deep décolleté are more attractive than their peers with a goat’s wool sweater. When the perfect woman gives signals that she is sexually accessible, the three basic steps have been taken: 1. I am a woman, 2. I am fertile and 3. I feel like it. Millions of years of evolution are then reflected in: Bingo!

Characteristics of the perfect woman:

Sight

A perfect woman’s face looks young and healthy. The ideal face is symmetrical and average. The latter means that there are no abnormalities, but also that the face is not particularly beautiful.

Lips

The mouth is important. The lips are full. The lower lip is fuller than the upper lip. And a sharp cupid’s bow is considered very attractive.

Bosom

For men, the perfect breasts are large (cup size DD or E). But beware, breasts that are too large are too abnormal and therefore less attractive.

Waist and hips

Research shows that men do not look at weight but at the correct proportions. An hourglass figure is considered the most attractive.

Legs

These are ideally average. Not too fat or too thin and of an average length. Symptoms of aging such as varicose veins do not help and hair is not considered attractive (male body characteristics are not allowed!).

Feet

According to researchers, men find women with small feet more attractive than ladies with big feet.

Clothing

Research shows that men find women in red clothing much more attractive. Clothing that signals sexual availability increases attractiveness.

Question marks

Although the above evolutionary story is undisputed among scientists, a few questions remain. Why do men fall in love if they do not want to commit, women nowadays do not cheat as often as men, what is the influence of popular culture and media and, has evolutionary development really not progressed further? Moreover, other cultures sometimes have different ideals of beauty, so what about that? In Africa, men are attracted to fat women. So science can continue for a while.
