Cause of many problems; the Atlas

In many people the Atlas (first cervical vertebra) is not positioned as it should be. This may be the case from birth, but it may also have another cause, which can cause all kinds of complaints, which are unfortunately not always recognized.

Cause multiple problems

The brain communicates with the body through the central nervous system, which opens at the base of the skull. The first cervical vertebra is also called the Atlas or C1. This vertebra plays the most sensitive and also primary role for the spine. If a disturbance occurs in this area (due to displacement of the Atlas, which disrupts the interactive communication between the brain and the rest of the body), a domino effect on the entire musculoskeletal system, nervous system and balance disorders in different parts of the body. These effects can lead to serious health problems over time and people often don’t know where they come from. The body is not functioning as it should. The quality of life deteriorates rapidly, but a clear cause cannot be found.

Psychosomatic

Doctors often say that the cause of the problems is unknown and that they probably have a psychosomatic origin. However, it is more likely that a doctor will not know that a misaligned Atlas could be the cause of the problems. This can be a cause of recurring migraine attacks and headaches. If this problem is corrected, it will usually provide a long-term, sustainable solution without having to take medication all the time. In addition, correction of the Atlas is the ideal way to improve posture.

Misalignment of the atlas

When the spine is in balance, the weight is distributed fairly between the two sides of the skeleton. The head weighs approximately 5-6 kg and is fully supported by the Atlas. When the Atlas is properly aligned, the skull will not be perpendicular to the spine. If the Atlas is not properly aligned, there will be a shift in the center of the body, which in turn creates a total imbalance. A consequence of this can be muscle dysfunction. One side of the body is more tense than the other side. This is also the reason that the pain often only manifests itself on one side. Therefore, if the Atlas is misaligned, the negative effects can show up across the body. Correcting the atlas is not a panacea that solves all problems.Problems that can arise from misalignment of the Atlas are:

  • Migraine
  • Headache
  • Chronic pain due to whiplash
  • Meniere’s disease
  • Temporomandibular joint syndrome
  • Asthma
  • Pain when bending the head
  • Pain when turning the head
  • Stiff neck
  • Pain in the shoulder
  • Numbness of the arm
  • Recurrent tendonitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Permanent muscle tension
  • Chronic muscle pain
  • Pain in the back
  • Scoliosis
  • Spit
  • Hernia
  • Asymmetry of the pelvis
  • Osteoarthritis (due to incorrect posture)
  • Blocking the SI joint
  • Inflammation of the sciatic nerve
  • Pain in the hip
  • Leg length difference
  • Pain in the legs, knees or feet
  • Tendency to cold hands/feet
  • Chronic eye inflammation/visual problems

Atlas therapy

Between 1993 and 1996, the Swiss René Claudius developed a method that turned out to be revolutionary. This method ensures that the Atlas is placed safely and definitively back in the right place. Mr. Claudius has made his method known since 1996 and trained various people to apply this method worldwide. This method ensures that the atlas is corrected in one go, because the short neck muscles are treated. This gives the Atlas space to return to its original location. After the first treatment, a period of approximately 6 weeks must be observed, so that the body has time to adapt to the new situation.During a second session, the position of the Atlas is checked and, if necessary, further treatment and associated advice follow. However, a second treatment is often not necessary and the complaints have disappeared completely.
