The Haarwensen Foundation receives a braid for a wig

The Haarwensen Foundation collects hair to have it made into wigs for bald children. Anna Christina from Ameland had her braid cut off to donate it to the foundation. Hairdressers can register with the foundation and participate in the campaign by posting information in the hair salon and cutting long hair according to regulations. The Haarwensen Foundation gives the wigs for free to children without hair.

Hair Wishes Foundation

The Haarwensen Foundation was started in 2008 and founded by hairdresser Yvonne de Boer. Paul de Leeuw was present at the presentation of the first wig to a sick child. De Boer was once a guest in Paul de Leeuw’s TV show in 2008. She was allowed to cut off the ponytail of a girl who wanted to donate her hair to have it made into a wig. After the broadcast, there were more girls who wanted to follow that example and this is how the idea for the Haarwensen Foundation was born .

Baldness

The Haarwensen Foundation works for children up to 18 years old who are or have become bald. A wig costs 2000 to 3000 euros. The Haarwensen Foundation gives the wig to the children for free, the parents do not have to pay anything for it. Anyone who would like to request a wig can contact the organization.

For whom

Children who become bald due to an illness or medical treatment are eligible for such a wig. For example, chemotherapy causes approximately 400 children to lose their hair each year and it often takes a few years after treatment for hair to grow again. That means a long period of baldness and for those children a well-made wig is a solution. They then look like a normal child.

Wig

One wig requires several braids, sometimes three or four. All hair is sorted by color, length and structure. The wig makers are in Asia and tie each hair separately into the wig. One wig takes approximately five full working days.

Give her

The Haarwensen Foundation makes wigs from real hair. To collect wig hair, the foundation depends on people who cut their long hair and donate it. As a thank you for this, they receive a letter of thanks from the Haarwensen Foundation. The wigs from the Haarswensen Foundation are specially intended for children.

Anne Christina Faber (14) from Hollum had been growing her hair for a special purpose for a few years. She wanted to have it cut off and donated to the Haarwensen Foundation. On August 10, 2012, her braid was long enough to be cut for that purpose and the scissors could finally be inserted. Hairdresser José Kanger-Wijnberg joined the Haarwensen Foundation especially for this occasion and cut the braid. Anne Christina didn’t even have to pay for the haircut.
