Enter the summer with beautiful feet!

When summer is back in the country, and many of us are getting ready for a nice holiday, the slippers and open shoes will often be taken out of the closet. But are your feet actually as summer-ready as you are? To go into the summer with beautifully cared for feet, you don’t have to go to expensive specialists or spend a lot of money on ointments.

Remove calluses

Stuck calluses under your feet can have various causes. Fortunately, there are several ways to remove excess calluses yourself:

Foot bath

You can start by removing calluses by taking a foot bath, preferably twice a week. After about 10 minutes, the callus will soften, so you can file, rasp or cut it away without too much effort. To facilitate this process, you can also add callus extract to the foot bath.

Scrub, blade and file

You can easily remove a small excess of calluses with a scrub specially designed for this purpose. You can remove thicker layers of calluses on your feet that have been there for a longer time with a special blade, a callus file or a callus rasp. Make sure you are careful not to damage your skin with these products!

Cream

You can also buy various callus creams in many stores that contain lactic acid or urea. Apply them to the callus and after a while there will be considerably less of it on your foot.

Callus plasters

There are callus plasters of different brands available on the market. These contain salicuic acid, a substance that softens the hard stratum corneum. However, if you suffer from diabetes, patches containing salicylic acid are strictly not recommended!

Caring for nails

To have beautiful feet in your flip-flops, it is important that you take good care of your nails in addition to removing the calluses. An important part of this is increasing the moisture content of your nails. However, if you want to achieve this goal, be careful when using so-called ‘nail hardeners’. These can damage the nail in the long term. Trim your nails regularly so that the nails grow faster. If you also suffer from very brittle nails, use a biotin preparation to strengthen them. This is guaranteed to give you beautiful, hard nails in your summer slippers! In addition, proper cleaning of the toenails is essential. This is because the feet are in contact with all kinds of germs and bacteria. If you suffer from toenails with fungus, try topical whitening or anti-fungal remedies. In general, these remedies give very good results!

Foot exfoliating

Finally, you could give your beautifully cared for feet a wonderful relaxing treatment! For this foot relaxation, use 5 cups of warm water and 1 cup of milk. Soak both your feet in this mixture for about 5 to 10 minutes. To also give your feet a homemade scrub, mix half a cup of vegetable oil with four tablespoons of salt or sugar. For the oil you can use baby oil, sweet almond oil or other vegetable oil. Massage your feet with the scrub and remove the loose skin flakes. Then rinse with cold water and let the feet dry. As a finishing touch, massage the feet with moisturizing lotion, such as moisturizers, cocoa butter or Vaseline. Summer ready!
