Take care of yourself on the plane

Do you take care of yourself on the plane? Flying may be the fastest way to get around the world, but after a long flight you probably won’t look as fresh as when you got on the plane. The holiday season has arrived again and with these tips you will arrive at your destination fresh and fruity.

Care on the plane

There are short flights and long flights. But after every flight, your skin feels drier, your hair is no longer as glamorous and you need hydration. Even if you sit for 4 or 11 hours, there is always time to refresh yourself a bit. The air conditioning in an airplane leaves you with dry, dull skin. What to do?

Water

Water is important to maintain the moisture level of the skin. You are not allowed to take liquids such as a bottle of water into customs. They take this away and throw it away. So take an empty bottle with you (or drink it empty) or buy a bottle of water after customs. Even if you don’t like water. Avoid drinks containing alcohol as they have a drying effect on the body. H2O is the way to go.

Antibacterial gel

You sit in the same room for a while and you don’t know who was on the plane before you. Bacteria are everywhere. Also on the tap and the toilet doorknob. Therefore, clean your hands with an antibacterial gel before taking the next steps.

Moisturizing cream

Because the air conditioning dries out the skin, it is nice to occasionally apply a moisturizing cream to the skin. Immediately include your hands and neck. They can use hydration too! Choose a cream that nourishes the skin. You really don’t need a mattifying cream. Even if you have oily skin, you can opt for a fuller cream than normal. If you use a lighter version of cream in the summer than in the winter, you can choose to take the cream that you use in the winter with you.

Face mask

Do you have a long flight and could your skin use a boost? Then use a face mask. A mask can be a hassle, so choose a good one in advance that is easy to use and remove. A simple type of mask is a sheet mask. A sheet mask is not a liquid mask, but a mask made of paper or cotton. The paper or cotton is soaked in a lotion or gel. It is a ‘striking’ mask, so it is recommended when everyone is sleeping. Then you can sit with your sheet mask on for fifteen minutes without noticing. Do you prefer to use a liquid mask? Then go for a transparent type. Note: use a moisturizing mask just like the cream. Avoid clay masks. A clay mask is not nourishing and annoying to remove when you are on a plane. There are different types of packaging. You can choose a tube or a bag that you use once. The latter takes up less space and weighs less. You can simply apply a mask with your hands and remove it with water. So much for hydrating and caring for the skin. With the following steps you will really feel fresh and fruity.

Toothpaste or chewing gum

Brush your teeth with toothpaste in the toilet or chew some gum before you land. You immediately feel fresher, especially when you brush your teeth. Chewing gum or peppermint is easy to take with you. For the ultimate fresh feeling, brush your teeth before you land. Nowadays there are many minis for sale in drugstores, so toothpaste and a toothbrush do not have to take up much space.

Lip balm

Don’t forget to moisturize your lips. Especially after the violence of the air conditioning, lips could use some care. It is better not to go for the standard Labello, but for a product that really nourishes well. These are often slightly thicker in structure. Example: Rosebud Salve and Eight Hour Cream by Elizabeth Arden. For sale at Douglas. These two products moisturize well and can also be used on dry spots. A favorite of many!

Deodorant

Especially after a long flight, you feel like taking a shower to freshen yourself up. To temporarily feel (and smell!) fresher, you can take a mini deodorant with you. A fresh or fruity scent works best. Not everyone will appreciate a deodorant with a strong scent on the plane. So spray a little in the toilet or as soon as you leave the plane.

Makeup

Does your skin look dull and gray? With a few simple steps and products you will look great again.

Concealer and highlighter

Use brightening products. For example, Lumi magique concealer from L’Oréal. This concealer covers dark circles and brightens the area under the eyes. Another well-known variant is the Touche Éclat by Yves Saint Laurent. However, this is not a concealer but a highlighter, but it does lighten the skin, making you look fresher. You can use highlighter on the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, under the eyes, the corners of the eyes, between the eyebrows and on the ‘cupids bow’ of the upper lip.

Blush

Do you want a little color on your face? A quick and simple way is blush. If you don’t feel like taking brushes with you, you can opt for a cream blush (available at MAC Cosmetics and drugstores, among others) or a cheekstain. A cream blush is easy to apply with your fingers because it is not in a powder form. A cheekstain is a liquid product that you apply to the cheeks and blend. You can often also use a cheekstain on the lips, but it is slightly drying. If you want to avoid that, you can use a cream blush.

Mascara and eye pencil

A little mascara works wonders. You can first curl the eyelash and then apply 1 or 2 layers of mascara. Do you want to give your eyes an open and awake look? Then use a white eye pencil on the inside (waterline) of your eyes.

Comb or brush

Brush or comb your hair to remove tangles. Or put your hair in a ponytail, bun or braid.Do you find these steps a lot of work and you don’t feel like wearing make-up or don’t use make-up? You really need the following basics on the plane:

  • Water
  • Moisturizing cream
  • Lip balm
  • Toothpaste or chewing gum
  • Deodorant
