Packed with vitamins

Spinach is bursting with healthy vitamins and minerals. 180 grams of cooked spinach contains no less than 1110% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of vitamin K. It does not hurt to eat much more than the RDA. Rather, it is a lower limit, a limit at which it is recommended to eat at least daily. Furthermore, it contains 377% vitamin A. It is quite difficult to become deficient in this vitamin as it is found in many fresh fruits and vegetables. It also contains 65% of the RDA of folic acid (B11). This is especially interesting for pregnant women, but everyone needs it.

The remarkably high percentages

Vitamin B2 contains 25% of the RDI, Vitamin C 29% and B6 22%. Vitamin E contains 19% of the AD and vitamin B3 11.3% and vitamin B3 4.4%. These are all very high values compared to other vegetables. But it doesn’t stop there because it is also chock full of minerals. Manganese (84% DV), magnesium (39% DV), iron (36% DV), calcium (24% DV), potassium (24% DV), copper (15% DV), phosphorus (10% DV), zinc (9% DV) and selenium (4% DV) are the minerals that spinach is rich in.Together with the US, the Netherlands is one of the largest spinach producers in the world

Eat spinach as fresh as possible

There is also a lot of tryptophan in spinach. Tryptophan is an amino acid. Beautiful green spinach contains more vitamin C than dull, pale spinach. You can sense this in your clogs, but it has also been confirmed in scientific research. It is therefore important to eat spinach fresh.

Spinach against cancer

Scientists have extensively investigated the effect of spinach against cancer. They discovered that this green leafy vegetable helps prevent prostate cancer. A study from England found that spinach intake has an inversely proportional relationship with the occurrence of breast cancer. In plain language, the more spinach you eat, the smaller the risk of breast cancer. Another scientific study examined various vegetables for their anti-cancer effect and compared their effectiveness. Broccoli, mustard seeds, Brussels sprouts, kale, cauliflower and turnips were examined. These are of course all healthy vegetables, but spinach stood out because it has many more vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. The anti-cancer effect of spinach was clearly measurable and the scientists did not find this special medicinal property in the other vegetables examined.

The healing power of spinach

Spinach helps against a wide variety of diseases. Arteriosclerosis can be prevented by eating spinach. There are many antioxidants in spinach. Selenium, zinc, manganese and vitamins A, C and E are excellent antioxidants that help against oxidation processes that also cause arteriosclerosis. All vitamins and minerals strengthen the immune system, making you better protected from diseases. Toxins are removed from the body faster if you eat spinach regularly.

Vitamin K

Spinach contains a lot of vitamin K. Only kale contains more. This vitamin is good for bone building. The production of osteocalcin, a body substance that, together with calcium, ensures bone production, is activated by vitamin K.

Eating tips for spinach

The ideal cooking time for spinach is 1 minute. You can prepare it quickly when you cook this vegetable. Spinach can be eaten raw; it falls under the alternative lettuce leaves. By briefly cooking it or eating it raw, all the nutrients are best preserved. When you eat spinach raw, add it to a salad. It is ideal to mix with lettuce, iceberg lettuce, dandelion leaves, grated carrot and arugula. Spinach is excellent when mixed raw in a vegetable smoothie. It is also nice to provide an organic sandwich with Dutch cheese with a few spinach leaves under the cheese.
