Airbrush tanning, tanning without the sun

Airbrush tanning is a craze from America. With airbrush tanning you can get a nice, even tan without the sun and therefore without harmful UV radiation. This is much healthier for your skin than a tanning bed treatment. A nice tan often makes you look healthier and more beautiful and therefore gives you a good feeling.

Airbrush tanning

Airbrush tanning or spray tanning is a technique from America. With this technique you can go through life with a healthy tan all year round. Airbrush tanning is the application of a tanning lotion to the skin by means of atomization. In an airbrush tanning studio, the lotion is applied using a specially developed airbrush device.

How does it work?

The airbrush device ensures that the lotion is sprayed over your skin, preventing you from getting spots and streaks. Even difficult spots can be reached because the treatment is done manually, you are not in a spray booth. The active substance in the lotion is DHA. This is a natural cane sugar derivative that acts on the proteins and amino acids of the epidermis, creating a deep brown, even color. DHA only works on the top layer of the skin and is not absorbed by the body.Spraying takes a maximum of 10 minutes, after which the product must dry for another 10 minutes. You can choose from a number of different shades of brown. The final color largely depends on your own skin color. Some airbrush tanning studios use a lotion that gives immediate results, other studios use a lotion that takes some time to work and only shows the effect after a few hours. The color intensity then fully develops within a period of about 5 to 24 hours. After the treatment, it is best to wear loose-fitting dark clothing for the first few hours, because there is a chance that the tanning lotion will transfer to your clothing.

Advantages

  • By combining it with moisturizing creams, this method is safe for the skin
  • Fast results
  • No harmful UV radiation, so it does not cause wrinkle formation and premature aging of the skin
  • Nice even color
  • Apply as often as you want

DHA-based tanning lotions have been approved by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) . This means that they pose no risk to health. However, airbrush tanning is not recommended for:

  • Pregnant women
  • People with eczema or psoriasis

How long does the color remain visible?

If you want to maintain the tan, you will have to regularly return to the airbrush tanning studio. The effect is temporary, depending on the speed at which your skin renews itself. The result usually remains visible for about 7 to 11 days. Rubbing your skin to dry has an abrasive or exfoliating effect, which can cause the tan to disappear quickly. It is therefore better to pat dry your skin with a towel after showering.Airbrush tanning does not provide protection in the sun . It is therefore necessary to apply a sunscreen with a protective factor when you go out into the sun.

What does it cost?

For the entire body, the average price is between 30 and 40 euros per treatment. The price for face and décolleté is around 15 to 20 euros. At most studios you can buy a subscription and get a discount on the treatments.
