Sweat stains in your clothes

How do you get yellow sweat stains in your clothes, what can you do about them, and how do you get rid of them? Everything is explained!

Annoying stains

Sweat stains in your clothes are very annoying. It is often seen as an embarrassing subject, but almost everyone encounters this problem. Many men have already had to throw away shirts because of the yellow stains. That’s a shame, because it’s not necessary! I will explain to you how the yellow spots occur, what you can do about them and how you can prevent them.

How do the yellow spots arise?

Contrary to popular belief, it is not sweat that causes these yellow stains on your white shirts. It is precisely due to what you use against sweating, deodorant! Many deodorants contain small microparticles of aluminum. When these microparticles mix with your sweat, they leave yellow stains on your shirt or dress shirt. You could switch to a deodorant that does not contain aluminum particles, but these often work much less well as an antiperspirant. The yellow spots will stay away, but you will get sweat spots in return. It’s a bit of a choice between two evils.

How do you remove yellow sweat stains?

There are many tricks to get yellow sweat stains out of clothes. The following tips are often given:

  • Wash the garment in water and white vinegar
  • Wash the garment in diluted bleach
  • Wash the garment in a salt bath
  • Rub the stain with salt and rinse with water and vinegar

Unfortunately, few of these techniques work. In my experience, the only technique that really works is using a stain remover.

How do you prevent yellow sweat stains?

Prevention is of course better than cure. Fortunately, there are many techniques to prevent yellow stains on shirts or dress shirts.

Undershirt

Wearing an undershirt can be very helpful in preventing yellow spots. This extra layer between your body and your clothing absorbs sweat. This prevents it from soaking into your shirt and prevents yellow stains.

Choose a different deodorant

As discussed earlier, you can also choose a different deodorant. Because sweat mixes with micro particles of aluminum contained in deodorant, yellow stains appear in your clothing. Keep in mind that deodorants without aluminum particles work much less well, causing you to sweat more.

Keep track of your armpit hair

Maintaining your armpit hair is an effective way to reduce sweating, and thus yellow spots. I don’t recommend removing all your armpit hair, but keeping it short can be a very effective way.

How do you prevent yourself from sweating?

Although everyone sweats, it is a big problem for some people. Sweating is a natural process that helps your body regulate body temperature. If you sweat often and a lot, you may suffer from excessive sweating, so contact your doctor.

Choose an anti-transparent

An anti-transparant can help you prevent sweating in the armpits. The difference between an anti-transparent and deodorant is that where deodorant tries to prevent the smell of sweat, an anti-transparent tries to prevent sweating altogether.

Light clothing

Your clothing may have the most influence on whether you sweat. If you want to prevent sweating, it is best to choose airy and natural materials such as cotton, wool, linen or silk. These fabrics breathe much more. Synthetic fabrics, on the other hand, can actually make you feel very warm.
