Reduce headaches

Many people among us suffer from headaches that often recur. What can be done to combat this?

Investigate headaches

Headaches are common in both adults and children. Studies show that 95% of women and 90% of men experience headaches at some point in their lives. According to an American population survey, migraine occurs annually in 18% of women and 6% of men. According to a Scottish study among 2165 children aged 5 to 15 years, 11% of children have migraines. Tension headaches are said to occur in 0.9% of children. That is why it is important that we also know what we can do about it today.

Natural treatment

It is better to avoid tablets as much as possible. The next time your head is about to explode, try a natural remedy. These remedies are reliable because they have been used for many generations.

Hot and cold

The first thing one can do is sit in the bath with an ice pack on the head. The combination of hot and cold has a soothing effect and also stimulates blood circulation.

Tie a scarf around the head

One can try tying a scarf around the head, just above the eyebrows. This reduces blood flow to the head and subsequently also relieves pain.

Relaxing massage

Get into a comfortable position and close your eyes. Start by massaging the temples and forehead, and gradually work your way down to the neck and shoulders. During this process one should breathe slowly and deeply.

Salty

To quickly make a compress, you can heat some salt in a pan without fat. It is important that the salt is warm, but it should not be burnt. Then pour the salt onto a finely woven cloth and form a packet. If the pain occurs in the forehead, hold the compress there and then tie it with a cloth. The dry heat of the salt will reduce the pain.

Cold compress

If you want to use an ice-cold compress against a headache, you can use a pair of old shoes. First, you must wet them and then put them in a hermetically sealed bag into the freezer. Use the entire shoe or remove the soles and use only the upper part.

Drinks

It is important that you continue to drink well. Headaches can also manifest themselves when the brain needs a glass of water. Prevent dehydration and be sure to drink enough.

Relaxed

One must learn to relax. This does not mean that one should meditate. Any form of relaxation that helps reduce stress is good. After all, this has also been proven in an Italian university.

Movement

People have to get moving. Research has shown that exercise can reduce the severity and frequency of headaches by as much as 50 percent.

Painkillers

If you use painkillers more than 15 times a month, you may experience “rebound headaches”. This is because painkillers also wear off, causing the blood vessels to expand again and the pain to return.Research has shown that this can also occur with over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin. So it is better to stop taking painkillers. This will be very difficult , but once the dependency is gone, the doctor can better study the underlying causes of the headache.

Workplace

When working in an office, one usually uses a computer. It is then important that people do not sit too close to the screen. Also choose the right position for the screen. It should actually be placed at eye level. If you do not do this, it will be too stressful for the neck, resulting in a headache.

Sugar level

If you suffer from a headache, it may also be that the sugar level is too low. This is easy to solve, for example by eating a few pieces of chocolate. Furthermore, bitter dark chocolate is a good remedy for headaches.

Lemon

Add some lemon juice to your tea or a glass of water and drink it.

Ginger

Ginger can also be used as a remedy for headaches. First take a few slices of fresh ginger and then cook them for fifteen minutes on a low heat. Then you can drink it. This remedy has been used in Asia for centuries.
