Infectious diseases in children – Warts

Warts are well-known things in the Netherlands. One child suffers from it a lot, the other child not at all. It is a contagious infectious disease.

Warts

Warts are contagious skin lesions caused by a virus. They often occur on the back of the hand and on fingers. Warts can also occur under feet. Warts mainly occur in children of primary school age.

Phenomena

With warts, only the solid, brown or flesh-colored, horn-like nodules are the phenomenon.

Contamination and consequences

Warts occur as a result of a virus infection. This contamination occurs through direct contact or through objects. The child can reinfect himself by scratching the warts.

Exclusion from daycare, playgroup or school

With some infectious diseases, a child is not welcome at a daycare center, playgroup or school for a while because of the high risk of infection. The GGD (Municipal Health Care) has drawn up rules for this. A child with warts is simply welcome.

Report to the GGD

For some infectious diseases, a treating physician is obliged to report to the GGD that a child has this infectious disease. Warts do not have to be reported to the GGD
