Excess hair, what to do about it?

In our society it is fashionable to shave smoothly, under the armpits, on your chest, and for women even the legs and erotic zone. But almost everyone knows a man or woman who is much hairier than others. Some of these men or women are okay with it, others will do anything to get rid of it, and for some it is even a reason to end their life.

Smooth is the norm

In our society a lot is done against hairiness. For example, there are commercials on TV or in the newspaper about new razor blades, hair removal strips, etc. It is clear that smooth is the norm. A woman should have smooth armpits and her legs shaved, otherwise she simply stands out these days. In any case, a man should take good care of himself, so trim/shave his beard, and more and more men are also shaving their legs/chest/armpits.

Past

Hair removal was already practiced in Egypt in the distant past. This was done using tweezers and hair removal cream. Many people find smooth skin not only beautiful, but also a lot more hygienic.

How to combat hairiness:

Shave

Everyone knows how to shave the hair from the body with a razor blade and possibly shaving foam. The disadvantage is that you can cut yourself and after a few days the hair will simply grow back, often even slightly thicker. An advantage is that it is the solution that is used most often.

Waxing/resining

Waxing is the removal of hair using a sticky substance. With waxing you apply a so-called strip to the skin, then pull it off so that the hairs are literally pulled out. An advantage is that the hair root is often pulled along and you are freed from the hair for longer. However, it is a lot more painful than shaving and depending on the part of the body, it depends from person to person whether they are willing to do this.

Epilation

Women often also have their eyebrows plucked; plucking can be done in different ways. It can be done with tweezers, an epilator, with resin, waxing or even with a thread. The disadvantage of epilation is that it is extremely time-consuming and also painful for some people.

Permanent hair removal:

Various methods are offered for permanent hair removal. One of them is through IPL light. It has become extremely popular in the past few years, making electric hair removal a thing of the past. The IPL technique works as follows; A device emits a flash of light onto the skin and a pigment in the hair root is able to absorb this flash of light and convert it into heat. If it then reaches 70 degrees in the hair root, the hair follicles and everything that receives nourishment will be scorched, causing the hair to die. Because hair has different phases of growth, the IPL technique will have to be repeated several times before everything is gone. After the treatments, IPL hair removal is smooth and painless for the rest of your life. However, it is very expensive. Depending on the area that needs to be removed, a treatment can cost several thousand euros.Of course, no one is forced to remove hair, but perhaps the most important thing is to simply accept yourself as you are.
