Foundations. They are opaque, airy, shiny, matte, cheap, expensive and in colors that are suitable for every skin. But which one is suitable for your skin? This article will help you choose the right type of foundation if you know your skin type. Read what types of foundation there are.

Foundation

First of all: what is a foundation? Women sometimes think that foundation is intended to give the face a nice tan. Wrong! Foundation is to even out the skin. Smoothing has various purposes, such as covering up spots or pimples or brightening the face so that you look fresh and awake. Do you suffer from red spots? A foundation helps to even out the look.Is foundation bad for you? That may have been the case in the past. Nowadays they do a lot of research and work with good ingredients. Your skin may not respond well to certain ingredients in a foundation. But if you clean your face properly at the end of the day, there is not much to worry about. If you notice that your skin does not respond well to a foundation, it is advisable to try a different foundation.

Foundations can be roughly divided into three categories:

  • Liquid
  • Mousse
  • Powder

Liquid

The best-known type of foundation is liquid. Liquid foundation is suitable for dry, normal, combination and oily skin. On combination or oily skin, the foundation is more likely to slide and disappear from the skin. It is therefore advisable to powder the whole thing with a loose or solid powder. Liquid foundation is easy to apply with a brush, sponge or simply with your fingers.

NB:

If you apply foundation with a sponge, it is wise to first wet the sponge under the tap. Sponges are known for soaking up 1/3 of a bottle of foundation.

Mousse

A mousse foundation is a lesser known variant. Maybelline recently launched a new mousse foundation. A mousse foundation is more suitable for normal to oily skin. A foundation like this ensures that dry spots on the skin stand out. If you suffer from oily skin during the day, this is nice because it keeps sebum production somewhat under control. On dry skin you will see a mousse foundation on the skin. A mousse foundation can easily be applied with your fingers or a brush.

Powder

Powder is nice to keep a foundation in place during the day. But there are also powders that cover like a foundation. They are also called compact powders or simply powder foundation. Powder stands out if you have dry skin. That is why powder is especially suitable for people with oily skin. The powder keeps sebum production under control all day long. Powder foundations generally cover well.

There are two types of powder foundations:

  • Pressed powders
  • Loose powders

Pressed is a fixed (compact) shape. This is often carried in the handbag. A loose powder is a powder for home use. There are many mineral (loose) powders available on the market. Whether a solid or loose powder is finer depends on your personal choice and experience. A powder foundation can only be used with a brush (for example a kabuki) or a sponge/puff (often included with the powder).
