There are many products that contain sugar without you even realizing it. Which products contain sugar?

Natural sugars

There are also products with natural sugars. You can find these in vegetables and fruit, for example. There’s nothing wrong with this at all. Your body also needs these natural sugars. So it’s really about added sugars. These added sugars are not necessary for your body, so you can easily reduce them or even completely eliminate them from your diet.

Why is sugar added?

Many manufacturers add sugar so that the product has a longer shelf life. This works very well with ready-made meals, for example. There are also manufacturers who add sugar because of its addictive effect. You soon find the product tastes much better because of the sugar and you want to have it more often. This means that the product is sold more often and a company naturally makes a profit from this.

What contains hidden sugars?

So there are many products that we do not know contain added sugars. To give you an idea, here are some examples. There are undoubtedly many more products that contain sugar without you even realizing it. As mentioned: always read the labels if you want to be sure.

Ready-made meals

Sugar is added to many ready-made meals. Because these meals often contain a lot of salt, they are a real calorie bomb and you can gain weight very quickly if you regularly eat ready-made meals. Sugar is often added so that the meal has a longer shelf life.

Chips and snacks

Sugar is added to many types of chips. Think of paprika chips, but also Tuc cookies and snack nuts. Be especially careful with the variants that claim to contain less fat. Many more sugars are added to this. Low fat does not always mean that it is better for you.

Sauces

Almost every sauce you buy in the store contains sugar. You usually don’t taste this, but it is definitely present. Think of mayonnaise, mustard or garlic sauce. Sauces that you can make with water or milk also often contain sugar. So it is better to make your sauces yourself. This prevents added sugars.

Soups

Most soups taste salty, but don’t be fooled: they do contain sugar. This applies to both canned soup and instant soup to which you only need to add hot water. And if you make soup yourself, be careful: stock cubes also contain sugar!

Icetea

Tea is very good for you if you want to lose weight, but it is better not to drink iced tea. This contains an extremely high amount of sugar and it does not matter whether you drink iced tea with or without sparkling. The iced green tea is also full of sugar.

Fruit juices

Just like iced tea, fruit and juices contain a lot of added sugars. Many people think that fruit juice is a healthy choice, but appearances can be deceiving. If you really want to drink healthy fruit juice, make it yourself!

No more sugar at all?

There is no need to stop eating sugar altogether. You can choose this and for many people it has a positive outcome. For example, you could try it out for a while to see what effect it has on you. If you want to lose weight, you can of course also choose to reduce the number of products with sugar.
