Hair dye blunders with blonde hair, how do you solve them?

When you dye your hair yourself, it may turn out differently than you expect. It often happens that bleached hair suddenly turns orange or blue, or that beautiful brown color suddenly appears pitch black. Fortunately, in many cases these hair dye blunders can easily be solved yourself, or even prevented! In any case, make sure you choose the right paint color. The number after the decimal point says something about the pigments of the paint.

How do you fix hair dye blunders?

Prevention is of course better than cure. So make sure you have the correct information about which hair dye product you use. If you are in doubt about which color to choose, always choose the lightest variant. In almost all cases, the paint actually turns out darker than on the packaging. If you want to dye your hair darker, it is recommended not to go more than two shades darker than your own color.

Bleached hair has turned orange

A common hair dye blunder is that the hair gets an orange or yellow glow when bleached. In any case, always make sure that you adhere to the application time stated on the packaging. Using a shorter processing time ensures that many red or orange pigments are still present in the hair, causing the hair to turn out orange instead of blonde. You can correct this by using silver shampoo. This shampoo contains blue/purple pigments that remove the yellow/orange glow from your hair. However, silver shampoo only works if the hair is not too yellow/orange colored.

Semi-permanent hair dye

If the hair has turned really yellow or orange due to coloring, it is good to correct this with a semi-permanent hair dye. This dye lasts about 24 washes, is less harmful to your hair than permanent dye and is often slightly lighter than permanent hair dye. To choose the right color, make sure you use a color that contains blue or purple pigments to correct the yellow or orange cast.

Choose the correct color code

The amount of blue/purple or red/orange pigments is indicated by the number the paint has. For example, choose color 9.1 or 10.1. The first number determines the color, in this case blonde. The number 1 stands for black and each number higher is one color lighter. This table looks like this:

Color code Hair colour
1 Black
2 Brown-black
3 Dark brown
4 Medium brown
5 Light brown
6 Dark blonde
7 Blond
8 Light blonde
9 Very light blonde
10 Platinum

The number after the decimal point determines the amount of blue and purple or red pigments. This is also called color character. The lower this number, the more blue-purple pigments.

Color character Colour
1 Blue
2 Purple
3 Gold
4 Buyer
5 Mahogany
6 Red
7 Green

If, according to this table, you choose a high number at the top and a low number at the bottom, then you are in the right place.

Only handle the pieces that are necessary

It is best to only treat the parts of the hair that are really yellow or orange. For example, if the hair at the bottom is the right color, leave it alone. If you repaint it, you run the risk that it will turn out blue or purple.

Dye blonde hair brown

Are you blonde and would you like to live your life as a brunette? Think about this carefully! If you regret it, it is virtually impossible to get your own color back.

Green

If you just dye your blonde hair brown, you have a good chance of getting a very faint color, or in the worst case it will even turn green! To prevent this, you must first pre-pigment the hair with a warm color. It is best to do this by using a color rinse that contains shades of red. This way you ensure that there are enough red pigments in the hair. This prevents your hair from getting a gray or green glow after dyeing. You can then treat the hair with hair dye. be careful that you choose a color that is not too dark. Look carefully at the color code on the packaging, it must be above 5. Otherwise you have a good chance that the hair will turn black. Also keep in mind that the hair color in real life is often darker than on the packaging.
