How healthy is milk

I have been a real milk drinker all my life. I love drinking and eating milk, cheese, yogurt and so on. But I am hearing more and more disturbing reports that milk is not that healthy at all. I started researching the pros and cons of how healthy or unhealthy milk is. But what surprises me is that many things are contradicted. Below you will find the pros and cons of milk.

What is milk

Milk is a mixture (emulsion) of fat droplets in water. Milk consists of 87% water, 3.2% protein, 3.4% fat, and 4.9% carbohydrates. Milk also contains the following minerals and vitamins: Calcium, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, vitamin A, B1, B6, B12, D and folic acid.

All these vitamins and minerals together make milk a healthy drink. It is therefore not without reason that milk is in the 5th bracket of the nutrition center. Even if you go to a dietician to lose weight, the advice is to drink at least 1/2 liter of milk per day. Milk is also very important for children. The vitamins and minerals are very important for the growth of children. Calcium, for example, is necessary for bone growth and for strong bones later in life. And vitamin A promotes growth, ensures healthy skin and protects us from inflammation.

According to scientists, milk is not healthy at all. According to scientists, there is a link between milk and certain types of cancer. Milk promotes osteoporosis, contains a lot of the wrong fats and contains relatively many calories. And humans naturally have an intolerance to cow’s milk. Milk also provides a mucus layer on the intestines. Drinking milk can cause complaints such as: migraine, bronchitis, asthma, skin problems, chronic colds, sinusitis, arthritis and allergies.

Pro and contra

As you can read, there are quite a few conflicting facts about milk. I have never had any problems with milk myself. But maybe if you drink milk all your life you will grow out of your milk intolerance. It is true that milk is of course heavily promoted to drink. But is this promotion because milk is really healthy or to line the pockets of farmers, manufacturers and of course the government. Well, it’s still not completely clear to me. I think that a lot of research still needs to be done on the consumption of milk and milk products until there is really concrete evidence whether milk is healthy or not. Until then, I’ll just keep drinking my milk!

Many products with milk

People with a cow’s milk allergy will always have to read the packaging to see if it contains milk. Personally, I think it’s surprising that all of it contains milk. I think that if milk is really unhealthy, a lot of products will disappear from the shelves. Unless of course they change the milk for another ingredient, such as soy milk, in the product. The disadvantage of soy milk is that it tastes different from regular cow’s milk. Below is a list of products that contain milk.
